Helen and Duncan: Couples Shoot in Berkhamsted

Although my home is now firmly in the Midlands, there's nothing quite like 'going home' to Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire.  It was a place that I felt ready to leave and to move away from, but it was my home for a huge chunk of my life and it's kind of just 'in my heart'.  I still have family and friends there and it's a place that will always draw me back.  I love getting the opportunity to photograph couple shoots and weddings in Berkhamsted and it gives me a great opportunity to see family and catch up with friends, the people that I miss the most when I feel a little bit home sick.

Today I met Helen and Duncan for their couples shoot/pre wedding shoot.  They booked me at the end of last year and with Christmas and New year and a few other family commitments taking up the majority of December and January,  we decided to plan in our meeting so we could have a chat over coffee, make some photos and just generally get to know a little bit about each other in advance of their big day.

It was a bright, beautiful and chilly winter's day in Berkhamsted today.  We ventured down Lower Kings Road to the canal tow path, through the park, past Berkhamsted Train Station, via the castle ruins and then back into the centre of town between Tesco's and St Peter's Church.  I found a 'little bit' of 'something' in each and every one of those places that made me think of when I was younger and growing up there.  Maybe I am just getting sentimental as I get older, but what I wasn't able to do all those years ago was appreciate the place that I grew up.  Well I think that quite possibly, I do now!
